The steps outlined here show how to setup trigger shapes in PowerPoint to
start a video at different times.
In PowerPoint, after inserting the video, do the following:
- Add a shape (say, a Rectangle shape) on the same slide as the
video.
- Select the movie shape that you inserted on the slide.
- In PowerPoint 2007, select Animations tab, click Custom
Animations button.
In PowerPoint 2003/2002, right-click the selected shape and select Custom
Animation... menu item.
- In the Custom Animations pane, click Add Effect | Movie
Actions | Play menu item.
- Select newly added play animation dropdown box and select
Effect Options... menu item. The play
animation for a video looks like the right arrow head:

- Select From time in the Start playing section and enter
the time when you want to start your video in that box.
- Select Timing page and click Triggers button.
- Select Start effect on click of and select the newly added
Rectangle shape from the list.
- Click OK button.
This will make PowerPoint start the video at the time you configured in step
6 when you click the rectangle shape. You can add more shapes and follow the
steps 2 through 9 to add more start times or bookmarks to the video.
